Therapists for times of change

Starting a new chapter? Find a therapist to talk it through.

Moving, a breakup, a new job, retirement, a new baby or a loss can change a lot at once. Read about licensed therapists who list life changes among their areas of focus, and choose who you would like to talk to.

Pick the change that sounds closest

It does not have to fit exactly. Many changes overlap, and you can come back and choose another.

  1. A move

A new city, a new home or a new country can mean a new routine, missing people you left behind, or feeling like an outsider for a while.

  2. A breakup or divorce

An ending can change where you live, who you see and how you picture the future, even when it was the right decision.

  3. A new job, or losing one

Starting, leaving or losing work can touch money, identity and your sense of direction all at once.

  4. Retirement and getting older

More free time, less structure, health changes or caring for someone else can take a while to settle into.

  5. Becoming a parent

Pregnancy, a new baby, adoption or a growing family can bring happiness and strain in the same week.

  6. A loss

Grief can follow a death, a diagnosis or an ending of any kind. It rarely keeps to a timetable.

Choosing someone, one step at a time

  1. Read

Each profile shows the areas a therapist lists, the approaches they use, their years of experience and their languages.

  2. Compare

Look for someone whose background and way of working make sense to you. Listing a topic does not by itself mean special training, so it is fair to ask.

  3. Decide

If you want to go further, check the options and arrangements with the provider directly. Reading a profile commits you to nothing.

Your next step can be a small one.
